Orenstein already gives a glimpse of what some people view girls should do such as follow fairy tales and go to Miley Cyrus concerts, it is already a foreshadow of the possibility of some of the principles she will be talking about. It then become one of those I didn’t have to go through all those steps just to find out that the only thing I needed was to look inside myself. At the end of the paragraph she comes to a realization that in order to fully understand how girls are being raised and treated in society she has to look at her own self first. She is also very frank “I don’t have all the answers” she’s keeps it straight and to the point and uses another ethos to let the audience know there is a standard, a limit of what she knows. She imposes that girls have to fight to earn both of those rights. She wants girl to be able to have both part in society not just one or the other. At the same time it is establishing her credibility, how dedicated she is and how she refers to other individuals who are “high up” on how much we would trust them such as “neuroscientist” who wouldn’t trust him as being accurate? She uses antithesis when she is saying “pretty and powerful” she is juxtaposes the two and created a parallel structure throughout the line. Throughout the paragraph there is a mocking tone behind each phrase such as “I returned to the land of Disney” making it sound like she doesn’t want to but she has to in order to conduct her research. She also uses satire tone when explaining how she feels about how women are being socialized. Peggy Orenstein author of the book Cinderella ate my daughter uses parallel structure when explaining everything she went through to understand her daughter and girls position in life.

And I faced down my own confusion as a mother, as a women, about the issues that raising a girl raises in me about my own femininity” (Ornstein 9).

I considered the value of the original fairy tales pondered the meaning of child beauty pageants went online as a “virtual” girl even attended a Miley Cyrus concert (so you know I was dedicated). I talked to historians, marketers, psychologist, neuroscientist, parents and children themselves. Who could…? I believed it was important to lay out the context…to provide information…So I returned to the land of Disney, but I also traveled to American girl place and American international toys fair (the industry’s largest trade show, where all the hot new products are introduced).

“Long last they could “have it all” be feminist and feminine, pretty and powerful earn independence and male approval….I’m the first to admit I don’t have all the answers.
